Like most of the people here my drive failed too. I called Verbatim but because I cannot find my receipt they will do nothing (dispite them having a 3 year warranty and with my serial number they can tell it is less than 3 years old).<br /><br />Instead of throwing it away I was curious what drive was inside so I opened mine up. It is a Western Digital drive! Those should not have this failure rate! My drive was EXTREEMLY HOT. After it cooled down I ran it for several days with the case opened and no problem.<br /><br />So it looks like the only problem with these is the cases do not let the heat out and the drive gets too hot. Before you throw yours away just take it apart and throw away the lid.
