I plugged the cable from my PC USB port into the Verbatim hard drive port for the first time and although the cable was firmly seated connectivity was intermittent. Verbatim determined that the unit was defective and since the product was still under warranty they accepted a return and replaced it with a refurbished unit. A new replacement would have been better. Also the original unit included backup software. The replacement did not. Other than these issues the drive operates perfectly. I do wish it had drop protection as some external drives do. If I were to buy another drive I would choose a brand that had that feature.
